Meditate On Scripture
Instructions for the Students
- Learn
it exactly as we show it.
- If
you have learned it with slightly different words, learn it the way we show
it.
- This
will be your most often repeated verse.
It will be repeated with each meditation.
Get a coach if possible
- It
is a good idea to have a coach at first because he can help show you
memorization techniques that you may not know about.
- It
is further a good idea to have a coach because he will agree to work with
you two hours a week. This will
make you more accountable. It
will also build a Christian relationship with a person who will become your
very good friend.
- Many
times your coach will be someone who has done the meditations himself and he
will be able to give you good advice.
- If
your coach need instruction, refer him to this
page for instructions to coaches.
- Read
the whole meditation from start to finish five times out loud.
Do not try to memorize any verses until you have done this.
- Read
the first verse of the meditation five times, again out loud.
- Turn
your paper over and see if you can say it perfectly without halt, help, or
hesitation.
- If
you say it perfectly without halt, help, or hesitation, move on to the next
verse.
- Do
not go back to the first verse or any other verse in the meditation until
you have done each verse perfectly without halt, help, or hesitation.
- After
you have done each verse perfectly without halt, help, or hesitation, go
back to the beginning and do the same things again. Do this until you
are comfortable with all the verses. Do not start stringing verses
together before you know them well separately.
- When
you know the separate verses quite well, you are ready to move on to putting
the verses together.
- Try
putting two verses together the same way you did one.
Read them, turn your paper over.
See if you can quote them aloud correctly without halt, help, or
hesitation.
- If
you can put two verses together, do the same with the next two.
Go completely to the end, two verses at a time. Remember to do
your verses aloud, memorizing is like singing, better practiced aloud.
- When
you are able to quote the meditation two verses at a time, double up and do
four at a time,
- Do
not try to do the first part without knowing the last.
If you do, you will have trouble remembering the last part.
Some students get so anxious do make headway, that they learn the
first verses before they begin on the last verses.
- When
you have completely done the whole meditation from start to finish,
including the Lord’s Prayer without halt, help, or hesitation, you are
ready to say the meditation before your coach.
- Your
coach will require you to say the meditation perfectly without halt, help,
or hesitation.
- If
you do not say the meditation perfectly without halt, help, or hesitation,
your coach will help you until you can.
- It
would not be good for you if your coach let you slide.
Do not ask him to let you slide.
- When
you have said the meditation perfectly without halt, help, or hesitation,
your coach will take you to a deacon at your church. He will have to take you to two deacons, but he cannot
take you to both of them at once.
- You
must again say the meditation perfectly without halt, help, or hesitation.
The deacon will not pass you if you cannot say it perfectly without
halt, help, or hesitation. He
will ask you to work with the coach some more and come back.
- If
the first deacon is satisfied that you can say the meditation perfectly
without halt, help, or hesitation, he will sign off.
- When
the first deacon signs off, your coach will take you to a second deacon
where the same requirements must be met before the deacon can sign off.
- Finally,
your coach will take you before your pastor. He will require the same as your coach and the deacons.
When you say the meditation perfectly without halt, help, or
hesitation, he will sign off.
- The
coach will then help you set a date to say your meditation before the
church.
- You
will help send invitations out to all of your friends and relatives that you
wish to be present.
- On
the date of your recital, your meditation will be witnessed by all present.
This is your keepsake.
- One
little note…. You will not be
checked for perfection at your recital before the church.
We know you will want to do your best, but many people get nervous
before strange groups. If you
make a little mistake there, it doesn’t matter.
You still get your certificate.
Why should you memorize scripture?
- It
will help you fight Satan.
- It
will prepare you to witness for God.
- It
will give you wisdom.
- It
will bring you peace.
Why do I need to memorize the scriptures known as the Three
Thirty Club Meditations?
- The
meditations will give me scriptural knowledge of all the important doctrines
of the Bible.
- The
meditations are in story form and though they are scripture, they are placed
so as to make sense, and are therefore easier to memorize.
Why do I need to know the meditations word perfect?
Why should I have to say them perfectly without halt, help, or
hesitation?
- We
want the scripture to remain in your heart for a long time.
For God’s word to be there permanently you have to memorize it
perfectly. For example, you
memorized the alphabet and times table perfectly so that you could say them
without halt, help or hesitation. I
am 68 years old, and still remember both the alphabet and my times tables.
If I had not memorized them perfectly they would not have stuck with
me. I could have said, “It is
not important that I know exactly what 2X4 is as I can look it up anytime.”
We all know that without the alphabet or our times tables, out life
would be limited. Your life as
a Christian will be limited if you are not experts on His word.
What can you expect from memorizing scripture?
Nearly everyone who does scripture memorization reports that they feel
blessed. Some report greater
awareness, wisdom, and closeness to the Lord.
